Hello everyone...
Its time for another topic related to health and we will discuss about anemia this time.
Firstly, as you can notice i already made some changes to this blog. I hope all of the viewers like it and i do really want to encourage all of you to follow this blog,...thanks.
So, lets proceed with anemia.
It is a disease related with blood.
Blood as we know contain lots of important features such as the red blood cells (RBC), the white blood cells (WBC), platelets and other constituents of plasma.
Anemia is a clinical condition in which the RBC count or hemoglobin (Hb) percentage or both of them are decreased. In this case, oxygen capacity of blood is reduced. Now you can understand how serious this disease can be as it effects the entire body functions.
Classification:
# anemia due to decreased RBC formation
# anemia due to increased RBC destruction
# anemia due to blood loss
Anemia due to decreased RBC formation is further divided into 4:
i) Iron-deficiency anemia : as the name suggested, it is due to lack supply of iron in the body. Iron is an important nutrition required for the formation of hemoglobin thus, low iron level decrease Hb level as well.
Treatment : Iron supplement.
ii) Vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency : Vit B12 and Folic Acid are used for the development and maturation of RBC.
Treatment : supplement of both nutrition. Vitamin B12 is very high in food like oysters, fish, lobster, beef, lamb, cheese and eggs.
iii) Aplastic anemia : This is due to suppression of bone marrow. As we know, bone marrow is the site where RBC formation take place thus suppression of bone marrow will decrease the RBC count.
Treatment : Suppression of bone marrow is due to the action of drugs, toxins and exposure to X-rays. So, it is a must to avoid all of them and for x-ray, try to minimize it.
iv) Pernicious anemia : This is due to deficiency of the intrinsic factor that will absorb vitamin B12.
Treatment : Supplement of Vitamin B12 until its level reach normal in the blood.
Anemia due to increased RBC destruction is further divided into 4 but i think these 2 are the most common nowadays :
i) Thalassemia : This is due to a defect in synthesis of Hb.
Treatment : Blood transfusion, iron chelation therapy or folic acid supplement.
ii) Sickle cell anemia : The RBC structure turn into a sickle-shaped which will later result in early rupture and destruction.
Treatment : It has no widely available cure. The treatments are only for minimizing pain and prevent infections. There are medicine used for this purpose such as hydroxyurea but the patient must first meet the doctor for prescription.
Thats all for this time. Those are the simplest form and i hope all of you can understand them well. Have a great day. Do become a follower here. Just leave a comment here if you have any doubt. Thanks for your time.
